About TAS

Learn more about The Associated Schools competition

The Associated Schools (TAS) delivers inclusive, high-quality inter-school sporting competitions for students across Brisbane and surrounding regions. Partnering with eight co-educational schools, TAS provides meaningful sporting opportunities for both junior and senior students in a supportive and competitive environment.

Built on camaraderie, inclusivity and excellence, TAS promotes sport as a key part of a holistic education, helping students build character, confidence and lifelong skills, while also supporting pathways to elite sport.

Competition Formats

TAS offers three competition formats — TAS Championship, TAS Shield and Junior TAS — ensuring pathways that encourage participation, development and performance at every stage.

TAS Championship

TAS Championship is our mainstream Year 7 to 12 competition, played in three trimesters of Saturday sport and three major carnivals.

TAS Championship

TAS Championship is our premier interschool competition, with Firsts, Seconds and Years 7–10 teams across our member schools. Students compete across three trimesters of sport:

Trimester 1 – Cricket, Boys Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Girls Football & Girls Basketball
Trimester 2 – Rugby, Boys Tennis, Netball & Hockey
Trimester 3 – Boys Football, Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball & Touch Football

Premierships are awarded at the end of each Trimester and are highly contested, reflecting the high-performance nature of the competition. The three major carnivals of Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics are a key feature of the TAS Championship calendar, with top performers from each school selected to compete. Another highlight is Derby Round, where local rivalry schools compete in fierce but friendly match-ups, along with a number of charity rounds held throughout the year that promote community spirit and sportsmanship alongside excellence in competition.

TAS Shield

TAS consistently sees huge participation rates across our eight member schools. With this in mind, there are a number of students at each school that do not gain selection in a TAS Championship team in their chosen sport.

In 2015, TAS introduced a supplementary competition to cater for as many students wishing to participate in the sport of their choosing as possible.

This competition has grown considerably over the years since. In 2024, these competitions were formalised into Junior, Intermediate and Senior age brackets, often with several divisions within each bracket. In the same year, these competitions were re-branded as TAS Shield.

Saturday fixtures follow the same rhythm as TAS Championship and premierships are awarded at season’s end. This supplementary competition, now known as TAS Shield, is highly valued part of TAS.

Junior TAS

Junior TAS caters for Year 3 to 6 students across our eight member schools. Students participate in four seasons of Saturday sport:

Term 1 – Cricket & Hockey

Term 2 – Netball & Rugby

Term 3 – Basketball & Football

Term 4 – AFL, Tennis & Touch Football

The three major carnivals of Swimming (Term 1), Cross Country (Term 2) and Athletics (Term 3) are a highlight of the year for our youngest competitors.

The philosophy of our Junior TAS competition emphasises skill development and participation. There are no premierships awarded and schools foster a culture of fair play and sportsmanship through the promotion of sport for all students.
