One of Cannon Hill Anglican College’s Year 12 students, Emma Humphreys, currently plays Wing Defence and Goal Defence for CHAC’s Firsts netball team and has been recognised for her outstanding player achievements.
She said she looks up to Ruby Bakewell-Doran (Firebirds and Diamonds) as she had a take-off year in 2022 making both her Australian and Firebirds debut. Emma said Ruby’s closing speed is extremely impressive and she loves the way she takes amazing intercepts out of no where.
Emma said the best piece of advice she’s been given is to be a smart player because that can be the difference between a good team and a great team. She’s heard that when everyone has the skills, smart players are the ones to change the game by reading the play, going for that amazing intercept or knowing the safest option.
She loves playing sports because of the team environment where all the girls become like family and push you to be stronger, both on and off the court. Emma said this makes you want to work harder for your team which makes it that much more rewarding when you succeed.
Here is a snapshot of some of Emma’s incredible netball achievements to date.
